Bad Day

Lyrics

6 o’clock the alarm rings early and you face another day
It’s time to get to it
You don’t want to do it

So you look through all your pills for something that could take the fear away
With so many choices
an internal voice is
whispering “soon you’ll feel OK”

Chorus
And you say you’re fine, you’re fine
You know you are
You could quit any time, you’re fine
You know you could

It’s not enough to know it
You’re gonna have to prove it
It’s not enough to say it
You’re gonna have to do it

Everyone, every single problem has you thinking of relief
You wouldn’t say so
Maybe you don’t know

You can try to avoid the issue but you know you’ll never win
You’re wound up so tight
And it doesn’t feel right
And in the end you’ll just give in

And you say you’re fine, you’re fine
You know you are
You could quit any time, you’re fine
You know you could

It’s not enough to know it
You’re gonna have to prove it
It’s not enough to say it
You’re gonna have to do it

This can only end in something bad
So far you’ve blown every chance you’ve had
I can’t keep on waiting ’round for “one day”
(There’s) only one thing that will make me stay….

Chorus
And you say you’re fine, you’re fine
You know you are
You could quit any time, you’re fine
You know you could

It’s not enough to know it
You’re gonna have to prove it
It’s not enough to say it
You’re gonna have to do it

You tell me it’s a bad day
You say that it’s a bad day every day now
You tell me it’s a bad day
You say that it’s a bad day every day now

Background

People say that you start taking drugs to feel good, and you end up taking them not to feel bad.  I would say that is true.  This song is about addiction and denial.  If you sense a little REM to the guitar sounds, it’s because I used a Squier Jagmaster, similar in sound of the guitars Peter Buck played in REM.  I’m an REM fan.
